Have you ever spontaneously hugged someone you didn't know? Or received an unexpected embrace from a stranger?

View 501 Answers

Yes.
Oddly enough, it coincided with the first time I ever got really drunk in a bar.
It was a gay bar.  We had danced all night and I was WASTED.
I stood by the door and hugged every single person goodbye before I left.
There was a lot of giggling.
Oh my.
Luckily, I had a very good friend who made sure I made it home safe.

Writer's Block: Year of the Ox

Happy Chinese New Year! The Year of the Ox starts today. What is your Chinese zodiac animal? Do you think you fit the description of the sign?

View 500 Answers

I'm a Wood Tiger.  I think it fits.
I'm also a Leo, so I suppose this just means I'm one big kitty cat!  That somehow makes sense!

Chinese Zodiac - Tiger

Personality

Occupying the 3rd position on the Chinese Zodiac, the Tiger symbolizes such character traits as bravery, competitiveness and unpredictability. Tigers love to be challenged and will accept any challenge if it means protecting a loved one or protecting their honor. They don’t worry about the outcome because they know they’ll always land on their feet. Don’t let their calm appearance fool you though; Tigers will pounce when they feel it’s necessary.

Born to lead, Tigers can be stubborn if they realize they’re not in charge. They have a slight tendency to be selfish but overall, Tigers are extremely generous. They’re very intelligent and they’re always on alert. Tigers are very charming and are well-liked by others. They are not motivated by money or power.

Health

As they do their enemies, Tigers have a tendency to pounce on their work. Afterwards, they’re left feeling exhausted. Although they’ll soon bounce right back, over time this approach can cause problems with their health. Tigers need to develop a more balanced approach to life so they can utilize their energy more efficiently.

Career

Tigers have a continual need to be challenged which may explain why they jump from job to job. This isn’t necessarily a problem because they’re smart and able to quickly master new subjects. The best jobs for Tigers are those that will lead them towards positions of leadership. Some suitable careers for Tigers include: advertising agent, office manager, travel agent, actor, writer, artist, pilot, flight attendant, musician, comedian and chauffeur.

Relationships

Creative in their passion, Tigers will never bore their partners. They’re expressive, polite and trustworthy, but watch out. Tigers tend to dominate their relationships. This tendency is instinctive and when monitored closely, such behavior can be kept under control. Partners need to be equally active to keep up with the Tiger’s sense of adventure.

Tigers and the 5 elements

Wood Tiger – Years 1914 and 1974

Not feeling the need to be in charge, Wood Tigers work well with others. Others enjoying being around Wood Tigers because they’re very giving individuals. They’re compassionate and willing to do whatever is necessary to help others.

Writer's Block: You Wouldn't Understand

Almost everyone coins or uses expressions that make sense to only a few people. What word or phrase do you use most often that you have to explain the meaning of to others?

I've had to explain the term "He/She talks out of both sides of their mouth." one too many times.

The word that people often ask me to repeat is "Jenky"

Writer's Block: Comfort Food

When times are tough or you're feeling down, what's the one food you can count on to make you feel better?

View 504 Answers

There are SO MANY things wrong with this question.  Food should not be something that you turn to to make you feel emotionally better.  The same goes for drugs or booze.  I think this is part of the reason America is so fat.  We are a society that embraces "Comfort food".
I understand when you are sick or congested hot and spicy soup makes you "feel better" but to just shove food in your face for emotional reasons?  That just makes me crazy.
I see so many parents comfort their children by giving them treats.  This just leads to a lifetime of eating = feel better.
How about meeting their emotional needs?  Or teaching your kids how to deal with their emotions without using pacifiers or food?
Interesting concept.

OK, end rant.  This question just touched a nerve.

I made the store...

It is the first step.  I want this year to be about art.  I've been doing it half way for long enough.  If I don't sell anything, whatever, at least I finally got it out there.

Right now I am focusing on the cake toppers.  They make the most sense and are so fun to make!

Speaking of selling, I already sold 12 calendars on Lulu!  I mean, putting it together at the end of Dec, and having never done it before, 12 is pretty good I think!   I got it in the mail the other day, I like it.  Now that I've done it, next year will be better.  Carl gets his free next year for being my very first customer!

This is the one I made today:

Today I made a couple that are meant to go up on my Etsy store page for selling.  I don't know.  I have kind of fallen in love with them.

Above we have Mini Monroe singing to a mini John F Kennedy
and below a wedding cake topper.

I'm kind of terrified I'm going to keep making them and not selling them and before you know it I will have a house full of them, staring at me with their giant eyes from all corners.   EEP!

I made these little ladies yesterday.  If I were to sell them in my Etsy store, what should I charge?  I am having the hardest time deciding what is too much or too little. They take me about an hour and a half to make, so I don't want to make them too cheap as it is my time.  Supplies are not too much, they use very little clay.  Would $18-20 be too much?

My plan is to make as much art as humanly possible in 2009.
Here is the first installation.
I call her, Tiny Dancer.

I made her out of recycled paper, clay and a wine cork.

"Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand..."

Best. Day. Ever.

I got a new Canon Rebel XTi digital camera!   I have wanted a rebel for so long.  I originally started adding it to my wish lists when it still took film!  That was near 8 years ago!

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy.  I just took my first few shots.  Moo is being a great model.

I need a new phone

My cell phone has died.  I can only text about 20% of the time now and it turns off on it's own every couple of hours.  Jon offered to get me a new phone for Christmas, so I am going to take him up on it.
Simplicity is key.  I want to be able to text and take calls.  I prefer one that I can close so it won't make calls from my purse.  I don't want to get online or any of that.  I like to be able to use fancy ringtones.
If anyone has suggestions, let me know.  I'm on AT&T if that makes a difference.
Don't need to take photos with it.  Would like it to cost $70 or less.

I am so happy I could cry this morning.  I am so proud of my fellow citizens for doing the right thing.  Last night was AMAZING!  People spilling into the streets, hugging each other, crying, celebrating.  I'm so happy I got to be a part of it all.

Wow.  Just.  Wow.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope Obama wins.  Honestly, I have zero faith in my country and have been saying since the beginning that there is no way a country that elected Bush into office at the last election could make the right decision this election, but now, I find myself actually hopeful they will do the right thing.

I hope I am not let down.  It is going to be a very hard 24 hours to get through.

I know, it has been quite some time. I'm just starting to try to get through my FL, but I want to say, if any of you have been going through stuff and I have not commented or celebrated good news and I've been silent it is only because I've not really been on the internets. My new job keeps me so busy I have zero time to be online at work (And really, it is against the rules) and when I get home I'm either too tired from work, or whatever new Fall shows that I am watching are about to come on so I don't want to bother. I've realized the internet was my way of coping with too much downtime at the office. Now I'm busy and like what I'm doing so the days fly by. Weird how that works.

Anyhow, I'm about 4 weeks behind on here, so if any of you announced you are having babies or getting hitched or moving to Antartica, I have not seen it yet, but will try to get through them all.

loves and kisses!
